“Sân trong sân” là một sắp đặt do atelier tho.A thực hiện tại Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, trong khoảng sân giữa Đại Trung Môn và khu Thái Học – nơi các lớp không gian nối tiếp nhau, mang tính nghi lễ và gợi mở một hành trình của những “ngưỡng”. Tác phẩm của chúng tôi là một phản hồi đương đại với hình ảnh lều sĩ tử – cũng chính là biểu tượng của một ngưỡng chuyển tiếp, nơi bước vào là chạm đến không gian ký ức gắn liền với khát vọng khoa bảng của người dân đất Việt từ bao đời. Mười hai vòm tre được cách điệu, lắp dựng theo bố cục hướng tâm. Cấu trúc nhẹ, dễ tháo dỡ, không can thiệp vào phần sân của công trình cổ. Việc giữ lại cấu trúc và tinh thần không gian truyền thống – với đan tre, mở hai hướng – là lựa chọn có chủ đích, để sắp đặt có thể đối thoại với di sản theo cách gợi nhớ nhiều trân trọng.

Courtyard within a Courtyard is an installation by atelier tho.A, located in the courtyard between Dai Trung Mon and khu Thai Hoc of Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam. This transitional space, where successive architectural layers unfold, carries a ceremonial quality and evokes a journey through a series of nguong (thresholds). The work offers a contemporary response to the image of the examinee tents – temporary yet meaningful structures that symbolize a moment of transition, where entering means stepping into a space of memory tied to the long-standing aspiration for academic achievement of the Vietnamese people. Twelve bamboo vaults are stylized and arranged in a radial layout. Lightweight and easy to dismantle, the structure leaves no impact on the historical grounds. Preserving the spatial logic and sensibility of traditional architecture – through woven bamboo forms open at both ends – was a deliberate decision, allowing the installation to engage in a respectful dialogue with the heritage context.
